Birthed through the ever-changing ecosystem of ballroom, ATARANGI draws heavy influence from the queer underground scene in Aotearoa by way of New York City to inform a sound touched by many, perfected by few. Hailed as a master of emergence, their high-energy, reactive, never-the-same sets melt the likes of techno to jersey club, ballroom, and fast-paced, percussive hard drum together in perfect, chaotic harmony.
As well as being a staple in the ballroom community in Aotearoa, they also help run, facilitate, and DJ the iconic Tāmaki Makaurau based queer club night NYMPHO - dedicating their collective practice to sexual liberation and gender euphoria on and off the dance floor.
Having shared the stage with the likes of LSDXOXO, Overmono, KI/KI, HorsegiirL and TAAHLIAH, they’ve made unforgettable appearances across the Pacific; from the Sydney Opera House to Beacon Festival, ATARANGI’s infectious, uninhibited sound will soundtrack dancefloors for years to come.
